People & planet

Commitment to people, planet and product

As part of Holland & Barrett, the Global Production Centre is committed to advancing health for both people and planet. Our mission is to extend the health span of individuals and the environment through responsible choices that nurture vitality and protect our shared future.

Responsible supply chain

Ensuring an ethical and responsible supply chain

Sedex Member

Our membership is part of our commitment to ethical, sustainable, and responsible practices across labour, environment, and supply chain.

What this means for you: audited transparency and recognised ethical sourcing.

Responsible manufacturing

Sustainability is embedded in our operations. We are independently audited under the SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) framework to the highest standards for:
• Labour practices and worker welfare
• Health & safety
• Environmental performance
• Business ethics

Ethical & transparent sourcing

Responsible sourcing is fundamental to achieving our supply chain transparency, particularly in today's environment of heightened stakeholder expectations, regulatory scrutiny, and broader ESG commitments. We work exclusively with bulk suppliers that undergo third-party Sedex audits to ensure traceability, compliance, and responsible practices.

Commitment to human rights

We are dedicated to protecting human rights across our operations and supply chain. As signatories to the UN Global Compact and in full alignment with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the Modern Slavery Act 2015, we actively combat modern slavery, conduct human rights impact assessments, and uphold the ILO Core Conventions.

Empowering people

We invest in capacity building and awareness through e-learning programmes developed with Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance. Our Live Well Programme promotes worker wellbeing, improving engagement, productivity, and long-term health.

Environmental impact

We will achieve net zero by 2040, see below for examples of our key environmental initiatives.

Validated Green Claims

We partner with Provenance to validate our and our suppliers' eco and ethical product claims (e.g., vegan, recyclable packaging), ensuring full transparency and compliance with the UK Green Claims Code.

Key environmental initiatives

100% Renewable Energy & Efficient Operations

We exclusively use renewable electricity, implement LED lighting, and utilise telematics in logistics - increasing efficiency and reducing carbon emissions.

Zero Waste to Landfill

Our Burton-on-Trent facility, including manufacturing and distribution, diverts 100% of its waste from landfill.

Recycled & Lightweight Packaging

We mirror Holland & Barrett's initiative for packaging to contain at least 80% recycled and or virgin materials - reducing plastic use by over 200 tonnes annually.

Sustainable Paper Practices

All paper used is FSC-certified and recycled. We have removed unnecessary plastic from deliveries and receipts, reducing paper and plastic waste by over 30%.

Water Conservation

Our facilities conserve water by using recycled grey and rainwater for vehicle washing.
